Building a Culture of Religious Freedom

Building a culture of religious freedom

From Catholic Philly

Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap
Alliance Defending Freedom Summit, Dana Point, California
July 9, 2019

[Archbishop Chaput offered the following keynote remarks on July 9 to the Summit 2019 conference of the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).]

Back in April Gerard Baker, the Wall Street Journal’s editor at large, wrote a column that I hope every person in the audience today will track down and read.[1] The title was “Persecuted Christians And Their Quiescent Leaders,” and he hammered home two facts.  Christians of every tradition – Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox – are now the most widely and brutally persecuted religious community in the world. And too many Christian leaders in too many countries, including our own, are too cowardly to name it for what it is — especially when it comes at the hands of Muslim extremists.

Cowardice is not a word you’ll find in the vocabulary of the Alliance Defending Freedom. And the threats to religious liberty in our own country come from a different, shrewder, but every bit as ugly brand of extremism.  So it’s a blessing and a joy for me to be with you today.  Courage, like cowardice, is infectious, and very few people can match the courage and character that permeate the entire ADF team.  Michael Farris, Paula and Alan Sears, Amy Shepard, and so many others:  These are extraordinary persons doing extraordinary work, and I count it a privilege to admire them.  But I’ll come back to that at the end of my comments. MDP: Shore Up the Future

MDP: Shore Up the Future

Dear Family and Friends of MDP,

On December 8th, Mother of Divine Providence parish celebrated its 63rd Anniversary as the Catholic community of King of Prussia.  Throughout those many years, we have been blessed with a beautiful campus, an outstanding elementary school and wonderful parishioners.

Most of you who are founding members, built a solid and beautiful campus where the liturgical, spiritual, sacramental, educational and cultural needs of our parishioners can be met.  We need now to “Shore Up the Future” for generations of Catholics to come.

Last fall you should have received in the mail a copy of our Parish’s June 30, 2017 Operating Report.  Your weekly contributions to the Sunday collection have allowed the parish to operate on essentially a break-even basis.

Like many of us, as our campus ages, it needs repairs that go beyond our normal operating budget which is funded by our Sunday collection.   Over the next 2-3 years, we face several large repair and/or replacement projects that are necessary to keep our campus safe and functional.  These projects, which can no longer be deferred, include the following: Continue reading “MDP: Shore Up the Future”

Parish May Procession

The tradition of “Crowning Mary” during the month of May is a long-standing one in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.   It typically takes place on the first weekend of the month after the parish children have received their First Holy Communion.

Mother of Divine Providence Parish will hold her procession on Sunday, May 5th, immediately after the 10:30 AM Mass.   All children who received their First Holy Communion, whether on Saturday or Sunday, are invited to wear their Communion attire and participate in the procession that will move from the church to the grotto in the parking lot for the Crowning Ceremony.      Everyone attending the 10:30 AM Mass is encouraged to join the procession!

First Holy Communion Weekend

This weekend, May 4th and 5th, 63 children will receive their First Holy Communion at Mother of Divine Providence.   We ask that you remember these children and their families in your prayers as they approach this important day.

May you always feel as close to Jesus as you do today.

May you always count on Him to gently guide your way.

May you always trust in God to answer every single prayer.

May you always feel Him blessing you with tender loving care.
